We are honored to announce that three beers have recently been awarded medals after competing in the World Beer Championships operated by the Beverage Tasting Institute of Chicago.
Oktoberfest and Holzhacker Lager were rated as “Exceptional,” receiving Gold Medals and scoring 93 points each!
Midnight Star received a Silver medal and ranks as ”highly recommended.”
Thrilled to be recognized among other top global and American Craft Brewers, brewmaster Michael Zamzow commented, “Brewing a great lager is a difficult thing, any little mistake shows up in the glass. It’s great to be recognized for our work. We have become known for brewing Lager beers.”
The judging took place in September by highly trained industry experts in a blind taste test.
For the third year in a row, Oktoberfest has received notable recognition. Judges had this to say: “Brilliant deep amber color. Aromas and flavors of fresh dark bread crust and dark chocolate nut with a supple, crisp, fruity medium body and a tingling, captivating, medium-long mocha, sprouts, and pepper finish. A robust yet sessionable marzen with fun pairing possibilities.” - When making this beer, we strived for true German style Oktoberfest flavor and taste. Hence, we are humbled and most appreciative!
Holzhacker? Helles? These words may not be in your vocabulary yet but here’s what they mean to these beer lovers:”Bright golden yellow color. Aromas and flavors of omelet and grape jam on toast with a supple, finely carbonated, dryish medium body and a smooth, interesting, relaxed herb pretzel bread and lettuces finish. A delicate, super drinkable take on the style.”
Midnight Star was identified as being a “lovely, easy drinking dark lager with nice depth and length of flavor.” We call it the dark beer with the blonde soul. In other words, don’t be afraid of the dark! Try it yourself in the taproom - take the Midnight Star challenge: close your eyes, take in the aroma and give it a taste. That’s what these blind taste testers did. They recognized the subtleties in the aroma noting “honeyed dark raisin toast and chocolate covered fruits.”
The World Beer Championships is America's oldest annual international Beer competition and has been operated objectively for decades by the Beverage Testing Institute & Tastings.com. It is a blind tasting, medal-based competition that awards based on a 100-point scale. Beers are judged by the Beverage Testing Institute's trained staff joined by top Beer professionals and buyers from retailers and restaurants using a proven, consistent, proprietary methodology developed in collaboration with Cornell University.
